Formula 1 heads to Austria for the eighth round of the 2026 championship, as the sport arrives at the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix.
Following the European season openers in Monaco and in Barcelona, teams now travel to the fast and picturesque circuit nestled in the Styrian hills. The Austrian Grand Prix will follow the traditional race weekend format, with three practice sessions before qualifying and Sunday's Grand Prix.
After seven rounds, the championship battle remains firmly in the hands of Kimi Antonelli. The Mercedes driver arrives in Austria holding a 41-point advantage over Lewis Hamilton, who boosted his title hopes with victory at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix last time out. George Russell continues to occupy third place in the standings, while the chasing pack will be eager to close the gap as the season enters a crucial phase.
The Red Bull Ring is one of the shortest laps on the Formula 1 calendar, but it consistently delivers exciting racing. Its combination of long straights, heavy braking zones and rapid changes in elevation creates plenty of overtaking opportunities, while the stunning Alpine backdrop makes it one of the most popular destinations for fans and drivers alike.
McLaren heads into the weekend as the defending winner at the Red Bull Ring after securing a dominant one-two finish at last year's season edition.
Below is the timetable of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend in Central European Time (CET):
