Alex Marquez went through one of the biggest crashes of his MotoGP career during the Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona. The accident happened during a tense moment of the race when riders were fighting closely together at high speed. Fans at the circuit became silent after seeing the frightening impact, while television replays showed just how dangerous the crash was.

The Spanish rider was trying to stay in the leading group when another bike suddenly slowed in front of him. Marquez could not react in time and crashed into the rear of the motorcycle ahead. The contact launched him into the air before he landed heavily on the track. Other riders managed to avoid him, which helped prevent an even worse accident.

Medical staff quickly arrived at the scene and treated him beside the circuit. After first checks, Marquez was taken to Hospital General de Catalunya in Barcelona for more examinations. Doctors later confirmed that he had suffered a fracture of his right collarbone and also a small fracture in the C7 vertebra in his neck. Thankfully, the neck injury was stable and did not require surgery.

Only a few hours after the crash, Marquez underwent surgery on his broken collarbone. Surgeons inserted a metal plate to stabilise the bone and help it heal correctly. According to the medical update released after the operation, the procedure was successful and there were no major complications.

After spending the night in hospital, Marquez was said to be in a positive condition. He was later cleared to travel back to Madrid, where he would continue his recovery and rehabilitation. Doctors are expected to monitor both injuries carefully before deciding when he can return to racing.

The crash shocked many people in the MotoGP paddock because accidents at such high speed can easily become life-threatening. Riders often travel at more than 300 km/h during races, and even a small mistake can cause serious injuries. Modern safety systems, including airbags inside racing suits and advanced helmets, have greatly improved rider protection in recent years. These technologies are believed to have helped reduce the seriousness of Marquez’s injuries.

Many riders, teams and fans quickly sent messages of support to Marquez after hearing the news. Social media was filled with comments wishing him a fast recovery. MotoGP supporters know him as a determined and brave rider who rarely gives up, even after difficult moments on track.

At the moment, his main focus will be rest and rehabilitation. Collarbone injuries are common in motorcycle racing, but recovery time can still vary depending on the severity of the break. Riders often return surprisingly quickly, although neck injuries require extra caution. Medical experts will only allow Marquez to race again when they are completely sure he is safe and fit enough to compete.
