Alpine have formally questioned the FIA’s decision to penalise Pierre Gasly at the Monaco Grand Prix, after the Frenchman lost a podium finish due to multiple pit lane speeding penalties.
Alpine executive adviser Flavio Briatore has voiced strong opposition to the penalties imposed during the Monaco Grand Prix, after Pierre Gasly was demoted from third to seventh in the final classification.
Gasly originally crossed the line in a remarkable third place on the road, but his result was overturned following two separate five-second penalties for marginally exceeding the 60 kph pit lane speed limit. Similar penalties were handed out to several other drivers during the race, all for extremely small infringements measured at less than 1 kph over the limit.
Franco Colapinto also received a time penalty for the same offence, while George Russell, Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri were among others affected by the same strict enforcement during the race.
Briatore expressed frustration over the consistency and severity of the decisions, stating that Alpine “strongly disagree” with the outcome and believe the situation warrants further examination. He highlighted that multiple teams were impacted, arguing that the scale of penalties applied across the field raises legitimate questions.
Alpine have since submitted a Right of Review request to the FIA, seeking clarification on how the pit lane speed limits were monitored and why such marginal breaches resulted in penalties that significantly influenced the final classification.
