Antonelli takes Pole Position ahead of Verstappen in Monaco

Formula 1 Andrea Kimi Antonelli Mercedes Reports F1 Monaco 2026 F1 season

The Qualifying was interrupted only once in the first part as Bortoleto crashed. Both Mercedes and Ferrari were struggling but managed to get representative times, even though Ferrari finished third and fourth ahead of Hadjar and Russell.

Q1

The Cadillacs were first on track and they also set first fast times. With seven minutes into the session Charles Leclerc topped the standings with time of 1:14:141 seconds ahead of Norris, Antonelli and Hamilton.

Eight minutes before the end George Russell still didn’t have any time set. After three minutes he made tenth fastest time and later improved to the seventh place.

With two minutes remaining there was a Yellow flag followed by a Red one caused by Gabriel Bortoleto who crashed in Turn 10. The session was stopped and all cars drove into the pits. After a couple of minutes Q1 was resumed and some cars returned on the track to try for last fast attempts.

Leclerc kept his leading position with Verstappen and Antonelli behind.

Eliminated were: Ocon (Haas), Perez (Cadillac), Bearman (Haas), Bottas (Cadillac), Alonso (Aston Martin), Stroll (Aston Martin)

Q2

First fast time 1:20:120 seconds was set by Pierre Gasly in Alpine. With ten minutes remaining Leclerc topped the standings with 1:12:928 seconds which Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli beat.

Five minutes until the end Antonelli was on top with time 1:12:704 seconds ahead of Leclerc, Verstappen and Norris. By this time both Williams and Alpines with Lindblad and Bortoleto, who didn’t participate due to his crash in Q1, were in the elimination zone.

With half a minute remaining Russell drove a lap which put him only on the eight place. This part of Qualifying was won by Verstappen with Antonelli, Hadjar, Leclerc and Norris behind.

Eliminated were: Albon (Williams), Sainz (Williams), Hulkenberg (Audi), Colapinto (Alpine), Lindblad (Racing Bulls), Bortoleto (Audi)

Q3

After first fast attempts Antonelli was on top with Verstappen only 0.001 second behind. With five minutes remaining Charles Leclerc still didn’t have any time set as he had to abort his first attempt due to a mistake.

Two minutes later he did his fast lap and topped the standings with time 1:12:351 seconds. Verstappen beat him and stayed on top for some time but later Antonelli drive another lap and got on pole position. As Leclerc was attempting for last fast lap he touched the wall and finished the session on the forth position behind his teammate Hamilton.
