According to a report by Bloomberg, the Chinese company is exploring its possible expansion into motorsport to boost the brand’s global appeal.
In addition to potential Formula 1 entry, they are apparently considering World Endurance Championship, too. That could be another option for BYD. It is unclear whether they would build a 12th F1 team or buy into one of already existing teams in the paddock.
So far, no decision has been made and BYD may step back from any motorsport competition. A potential problem might be the extremely high entering F1 costs, which are, according to Bloomberg a significant obstacle for the Chinese company. It is known for making affordable electric and hybrid vehicles as they are now its the world’s top seller.
