Mick Schumacher will continue his racing career in the United States after Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) confirmed that the 26-year-old will compete full-time in the 2026 IndyCar Series. The move marks a major shift for the German-Swiss driver, who previously logged 43 Formula One starts and most recently raced in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Alpine.

Schumacher joins an three-car RLL squad, completing the team’s 2026 lineup alongside Graham Rahal and 2025 IndyCar Rookie of the Year Louis Foster. He will drive the No. 47 Honda-powered entry, a number chosen for its personal significance to the Schumacher family.

Although well-versed in road and street circuits from his time in F1, Schumacher will also take on oval racing for the first time. The 2026 season features six oval or superspeedway events, including the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 on 24 May. RLL has already begun preparations for an oval test as part of Schumacher’s transition.

His switch to IndyCar follows a promising evaluation test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on 13 October, where he impressed the team with strong pace, quick adaptation and detailed technical feedback. The test reinforced Schumacher’s ambition to return to top-level single-seater competition.

“I am delighted to confirm today that I will be competing in the IndyCar Series next year with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, taking part in the full season,” Schumacher said.

“Having both an F1 and an endurance background… I have insights and knowledge that I am sure will contribute to a great partnership. RLL prepared me extremely well during testing already, and I am sure that we can build a lot together.”

The 2026 IndyCar Series kicks off on 1 March with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg and includes 17 races across North America.
