Oscar Piastri claimed a commanding victory at a weather-disrupted Belgian Grand Prix, passing teammate Lando Norris early on to secure McLaren’s third consecutive one-two finish. The result sees Piastri extend his championship lead to 16 points.
Oscar Piastri emerged victorious at Spa-Francorchamps in a race delayed by over an hour due to heavy rain and poor visibility. The Australian made a decisive move on the opening lap after a rolling start, using the slipstream to overtake Lando Norris on the Kemmel Straight following Eau Rouge.
McLaren dominated once again, celebrating a sixth one-two finish in 13 races this season. Charles Leclerc completed the podium in third for Ferrari, but was unable to challenge the McLaren duo throughout the race.
The grand prix began with four laps behind the safety car before green flag conditions allowed proper racing to begin. Piastri seized his opportunity immediately and maintained control for the remainder of the 44-lap race, managing tyre wear and track conditions effectively.
Both McLaren drivers ran a one-stop strategy. Piastri switched to medium tyres on lap 12, while Norris opted for hards a lap later. Despite a brief late-race push from Norris, Piastri maintained a gap of over three seconds at the finish line.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who won Saturday’s sprint race, had to settle for fourth, in what was the team’s first grand prix since the departure of team principal Christian Horner. George Russell brought his Mercedes home in fifth.
Williams enjoyed a strong outing as Alex Albon finished sixth, just ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari. Rookie Liam Lawson impressed with eighth place for Racing Bulls, followed by Gabriel Bortoleto in ninth for Sauber and Pierre Gasly in tenth for Alpine.
