Kimi Antonelli strengthened his grip on the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship by claiming victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, converting pole position into his fifth win of the season and extending his championship advantage after Round 6.
The Mercedes youngster controlled the race around the streets of Monte Carlo to secure another maximum points haul. Combined with a difficult afternoon for team-mate George Russell, Antonelli increased his lead at the top of the drivers' standings to 66 points.
Ferrari enjoyed one of its strongest weekends of the campaign. Lewis Hamilton finished second in Monaco and moved up to second place in the championship. The seven-time world champion took advantage of Russell's troubles and now sits as Antonelli's closest challenger.
Russell's race, meanwhile, unravelled after he received a penalty and eventually finished only 12th. The disappointing result saw the Briton drop from second to third in the standings, leaving him 68 points behind his team-mate in the title fight.
Another driver to gain ground was Isack Hadjar. The Red Bull driver finished third in Monaco and climbed to eighth in the championship.
McLaren recovered from its disappointing Canadian Grand Prix, with Oscar Piastri taking fourth place in Monaco. The Australian's result was enough to move ahead of team-mate Lando Norris into fifth in the drivers' standings. Norris lost further ground after another difficult weekend for the Woking-based squad.
Max Verstappen's championship position remained unchanged, even after retirement in Monaco.
The battle in the midfield remains close. Liam Lawson continued his strong form with fifth place in Monaco and moved into ninth in the standings. Pierre Gasly also scored points after finishing seventh following post-race penalty, leaving him tied with Lawson on 26 points and completing the top 10.
Further down the order, Fernando Alonso finally opened his account for the 2026 season. The Aston Martin driver crossed the line in 10th place to score his first championship point of the year after a frustrating opening phase of the campaign.
