Formula 1 Andrea Kimi Antonelli 2026 F1 season F1 Silverstone

Andrea Kimi Antonelli remains at the top of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship, but George Russell is slowly reducing his advantage. The Mercedes rookie had one of his strongest weekends of the season at Silverstone, winning the sprint and fighting for victory in the Grand Prix, but technical problems cost him valuable points and allowed Russell to close the gap.

George Russell continued his championship comeback at Silverstone by finishing second in the British Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver scored 18 points on Sunday, while Antonelli failed to add to his tally after technical problems forced him out of the points-paying positions. However, the Italian had gained three points on Russell earlier in the weekend by winning the sprint race, meaning Russell reduced the championship deficit by 15 points overall at Silverstone. Antonelli now leads with 179 points, with Russell 25 points behind on 154.

Lewis Hamilton completed the podium at his home race and remains third in the championship standings. The Ferrari driver has collected 147 points and is still within reach of the Mercedes drivers ahead.

Charles Leclerc was the biggest winner in the championship battle outside the top three. His victory at Silverstone moved him from sixth to fourth place in the standings, with the Ferrari driver now on 108 points. Leclerc's success also saw him overtake both McLaren drivers.

Lando Norris moved ahead of team-mate Oscar Piastri after finishing fourth at his home Grand Prix. The Briton is now fifth in the standings with 97 points, while Piastri dropped to sixth after failing to score in Sunday's race and remains on 82 points.

Max Verstappen also failed to score in Sunday's Grand Prix after a late crash ended his hopes of a podium finish. The Red Bull driver had been fighting near the front before the incident but remains seventh in the championship with 76 points.

Isack Hadjar strengthened his position in eighth place after finishing fifth in Britain. The Red Bull driver increased his tally to 52 points, extending his advantage over Pierre Gasly, who stays ninth with 42 points.

Liam Lawson continues to hold tenth place in the championship after another solid performance. The Racing Bulls driver has now scored 39 points.
