F1 has announced the 2026 sprint schedule, with three venues hosting the shortened format for the first time.
While the number of sprints stays the same as in recent years, the selection of tracks has changed a lot, with only Shanghai and Miami remaining from the 2025 list.
The sprint season will begin in Shanghai at round two, before moving to Miami at round six. Both have already become regular sprint hosts. Montreal will hold its very first sprint race, made even more notable as the Canadian Grand Prix moves from its usual June slot to May.
Silverstone, which last staged a sprint in 2021, will return to the roster. Later in the year, Zandvoort will host its first sprint in what will be the Dutch Grand Prix’s final appearance on the calendar, while Singapore will also feature a Sprint for the first time.
Some well-known s venues will not be included in 2026. Interlagos in Brazil, which had hosted a sprint every year since the format began in 2021, has been dropped. The United States Grand Prix in Austin will also lose its sprint after three seasons in a row.
The sprint weekends will continue with the same structure. Friday will include one free practice session followed by sprint qualifying. Saturday will feature the sprint race and then Grand Prix qualifying. The weekend will finish on Sunday with the Grand Prix itself. With Montreal, Zandvoort and Singapore all joining the format for the first time, the new calendar is set to give fans more variety and excitement.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said the sprint format has grown strongly in popularity since it was first introduced. He explained that having four competitive sessions across a weekend offers more action for fans, broadcasters and promoters, and helps boost both ticket sales and viewing figures.
He also said that bringing three new sprint venues in 2026, along with the arrival of new regulations and cars, will only add to the drama. Domenicali thanked the FIA, promoters, teams, volunteers and partners for their work in making the sprint a success, and said that Formula 1 is looking forward to giving fans even more thrilling racing in its new era.
