The opening Free Practice 1 delivered drama as lap times tumbled quickly and the leaderboard changed constantly. Yamaha wildcard Augusto Fernández made his debut with the new V4 engine, while Franco Morbidelli stole the spotlight by setting the fastest time despite a late crash.
The morning Free Practice 1 started with riders going immediately out on track. For this weekend, Yamaha had brought Augusto Fernández as their wildcard. He is the only Yamaha rider testing the new V4 bike, which Yamaha revealed yesterday.
The first times ranged between 1:43 and 1:32. After the first five minutes of the session, Marc Márquez took the lead, with Fabio Quartararo right behind him in second place. However, the pace quickly increased and the positions kept changing rapidly. Ten minutes into the session, Quartararo was leading, with Marco Bezzecchi in second and Álex Márquez in third. That didn’t last long, as Luca Marini soon went fastest, pushing Quartararo back to second. At this stage, lap times were in the 1:31–1:33 range, making it very close between the riders.
With around 15 minutes completed, some riders started to return to the pits. Fernández, testing the V4, was running in 12th place, a solid result, as he was the second-fastest Yamaha behind Quartararo, showing promising signs for the new engine.
At that point, the top 10 looked as follows: Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio, Marini, Quartararo, Marc Márquez, Morbidelli, Bagnaia, Álex Márquez, Acosta, and Viñales.
Marc Márquez was one of the riders who quickly returned to the track from the pits. He put together a strong lap and moved into the lead. The first yellow flag of the session appeared shortly after, initially due to Fernández suffering a problem with the new bike, and at the same time Miguel Oliveira crashed, causing the flag.

With 12 minutes remaining, the top 10 was: Álex Márquez, Marc Márquez, Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio, Marini, Quartararo, Morbidelli, Bagnaia, Acosta, and Marini (appearing twice due to timing updates). Once again, most of the riders returned to the pits before heading back out for their final runs. The fastest time at that stage was a 1:31.600 by Álex Márquez.
With six minutes to go, Franco Morbidelli pulled out an incredible lap to take the lead from Álex. His teammate, Di Giannantonio, slotted into second.
Two minutes from the end, a second yellow flag was shown after Miguel Oliveira crashed again. Meanwhile, most riders were unable to improve significantly. Morbidelli, who was pushing to go even faster, crashed at Turn 10 in the closing moments. Despite the fall, he remained fastest overall. Quartararo finished second, with Di Giannantonio completing the top three.
