Formula 1 F1 Monaco Pierre Gasly 2026 F1 season Alpine F1 Team FIA

Pierre Gasly has welcomed the FIA's decision to reinstate his Monaco Grand Prix podium finish, praising Alpine's efforts and the governing body's transparency. However, the Frenchman admits that no verdict can replace the emotions and celebrations he missed out on after initially being stripped of third place.

Pierre Gasly says he is proud to have his Monaco Grand Prix podium restored, although the Alpine driver admits the experience he lost after the race can never truly be recovered.

Gasly originally crossed the line in third place in Monte Carlo, securing what would have been the sixth podium finish of his Formula 1 career. However, two pit lane speeding penalties dropped him to seventh in the final classification.

After Alpine requested a right of review, the Monaco stewards re-examined the case and concluded that Gasly had committed no offence. As a result, both penalties were cancelled and the Frenchman was officially reinstated to third place, with Isack Hadjar losing his podium finish.

Speaking ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend in Barcelona, Gasly admitted the days following Monaco had been emotionally difficult.

“I'm extremely happy for the whole team, very proud of the whole team, the way they have fought for all of us for that result,” he told Sky Sports on Friday.

“I must say, Sunday night I felt very low. A lot of mixed emotions, proud of the performance, extremely sad about the whole decision, the whole situation. Some injustice in all that situation, and I wasn't sure how things would move forward. But the team did an amazing job," Gasly added.

“I'm very proud of F1, FIA for the transparency and everybody recognising their responsibilities in that situation. We all know that with everything at stake, when you look at the world championship in all different sports, you know how complicated things can be. I think for today, it's a massive step forward for our sport.”

Despite the successful appeal, Gasly admitted that receiving the trophy days after the event cannot make up for the celebrations he missed in Monaco.

“It won't give me back what I lost. I've accepted that already. As much as I would have liked to see how it looks, just stopping there, being on the podium with the prince, celebrating with the guys. These moments are what makes a career so special. It's not going to happen, it didn't happen, that's how it is. We'll have to do it another time," Gasly concluded.
