Formula 1 2026 F1 season F1 testing Isack Hadjar

Formula 1’s 2026 pre-season running began quietly in Barcelona, with unofficial reports indicating Isack Hadjar was the fastest driver during a low-key opening day.

The first day of Formula 1’s 2026 Barcelona shakedown offered only fragmented information from the afternoon session, but local reports suggest Isack Hadjar ended Monday on top.

With teams switching off live timing after the morning runs and access around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya heavily restricted, very little verified data emerged from the second half of the day. Spanish outlet Soy Motor reports that Hadjar posted the quickest lap of the afternoon with a 1:18.159, placing Red Bull at the top of the timesheets on Day 1.

George Russell was the only other driver to dip into the 1:18s, finishing just over half a second behind in second place. Alpine Franco Colapinto rounded out the provisional top three.

While lap times remained largely secondary, mileage was a key focus for several teams. Esteban Ocon is believed to have completed close to 150 laps for Haas, with Mercedes also understood to be among the most productive teams in terms of total distance covered.

The afternoon session also saw the first meaningful running for Cadillac’s new Formula 1 project. Both Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas took to the track as the American manufacturer continues its early 2026 preparations.

Track action resumes on Tuesday morning from 09:00 CET, with Ferrari and McLaren expected to join the running for the first time at the Barcelona shakedown.
