Lewis Hamilton believes the difficult start to his Ferrari career is finally paying off. After securing back-to-back second-place finishes and climbing to second in the championship, the seven-time world champion says the work he and the team put in during 2025 is now beginning to deliver results.
Lewis Hamilton feels Ferrari's hard work over the past year is finally starting to pay dividends after a noticeable improvement in form during the 2026 Formula 1 season.
The Briton finished second in Canada before repeating the result in Monaco, giving him consecutive podium finishes for the first time since the 2024 Hungarian and Belgian Grands Prix. Combined with his third place in China, those results have lifted him to second in the drivers' standings, two points clear of George Russell.
It also marks the first time Hamilton has occupied a top-two position in the championship since the dramatic 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, a significant turnaround after a challenging debut campaign with Ferrari in 2025, when he failed to score a grand prix podium.
Looking back on the progress made since joining the Scuderia, Hamilton said the difficult moments have helped lay the foundations for the team's current momentum.
"I came to a team that has everything it needs to succeed, but it is just putting the pieces of the puzzle in the right place, and I've been 100% committed to getting to that point," Hamilton said, as quoted by RacingNews365.
Hamilton credited team principal Fred Vasseur and Ferrari's engineers for helping unlock more performance, adding that some of the changes he pushed for after his first season have now been implemented.
"Fred (Vasseur) has been great when working with me and helping engineers, with the set-up being one million times better than it was last year, and I'm starting to see the fruits of driving the car last year, and I asked for certain things, and we have those today, for example, the suspension," Hamilton explained.
While encouraged by the progress, Hamilton stressed that Ferrari's development is far from complete and that there is still room for improvement.
"So it is great to work with everyone to move the ship and steer it in the right direction, but there is still a way to go," the Ferrari driver added.
