Helmut Marko is set to make his first appearance in an official Formula 1 role since leaving Red Bull, with Austrian media reporting he will take on an ambassador position at his home race.
Helmut Marko is set to return to the Formula 1 environment in a new capacity, marking his first involvement since stepping away from Red Bull at the end of the 2025 season.
According to Austrian outlet OE24, the former F1 driver and mainly the long-time Red Bull advisor will take on the role of ambassador for the Austrian Grand Prix. Marko was a central figure in Red Bull’s rise to success, contributing to title-winning eras with both Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
He confirmed late last year that he would not continue with the Milton Keynes-based team into 2026, bringing an end to his long-standing role within the organisation.
The ambassador position represents a different kind of involvement, typically reserved for well-known figures from the sport, most often former drivers. For example, Jenson Button serves as an ambassador for Aston Martin, while Damon Hill holds a similar role with Williams. More recently, former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has taken on ambassador duties for the Miami Grand Prix.
The Austrian Grand Prix, held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, has been a regular fixture on the calendar since its return in 2014 and has produced several memorable moments, including clashes between title contenders. Formula 1 confirmed last year that the event will remain on the schedule until at least 2041.
The 2026 edition is scheduled for 28 June and will form the eighth round of the season. It is expected that Marko will be present in the paddock there, marking his first appearance in an official F1-related role since leaving Red Bull.
