Jos Verstappen has launched a sharp response to Martin Brundle after the Sky Sports F1 commentator suggested that "Team Verstappen" had played a major role in dismantling Red Bull's management. The Dutchman dismissed Brundle's claims with a blunt message on social media.
Jos Verstappen has hit out at Sky Sports F1 pundit Martin Brundle following comments made during the British Grand Prix weekend, where the former Formula 1 driver claimed that "Team Verstappen" had effectively reshaped Red Bull's leadership over the past two years.
Discussing Red Bull's series of high-profile departures, Brundle argued that Max Verstappen's camp had been instrumental in the changes.
"My goodness, they wanted to torpedo the management of Red Bull, didn't they? Team Verstappen did that very well indeed. To start with, Christian Horner, and it just carried on from there with Adrian Newey, Dr Helmut Marko and Jonathan Wheatley. Now we know Paul Monaghan is leaving," said Burndle and added:
"I think they did a bit too good a job of wanting to move some people out of the way there at Red Bull, did Team Verstappen."
The former F1 driver also addressed rumours linking Max Verstappen with McLaren, noting that conversations between teams and drivers are a normal part of life in the Formula 1 paddock.
"It's a very small world down there. We're always in the same 400 metres of concrete and asphalt every other weekend. Every weekend, it's their job to find out who's available, and also when. It's part and parcel of this rather small world that we're in," concluded the Briton.
Jos Verstappen wasted little time responding. In a post on social media, he rejected Brundle's assessment with a short but pointed message:
"Another idiot who thinks he knows what it's like."
Despite being contracted to Red Bull until the end of the 2028 season, Max Verstappen has yet to publicly confirm that he will remain with the team next year. Ongoing speculation surrounding performance-related exit clauses has continued to fuel rumours about his long-term future.
