Marc Marquez takes pole position in Balaton Park

Both Qualifying sessions took place without any major crashes. Bagnaia and Marini got to ride in Q1 which was led by Acosta for most of the time until M. Marquez took the pole position.

Q1

In this part of Qualifying participated Razgatlioglu, Marini, Vinales, Quartararo, Morbidelli, Bastianini, Lecuona, Binder, Crutchlow, Mir, Rins, Bagnaia who all had medium tires in front and soft rear tires.

First fastest attempt drove Razgatlioglu with time 1:38:074 seconds. Next fastest time set Bastianini followed by Mir, Marini and Lecuona so Razgatlioglu ended up on the fifth place.

With seven minutes remaining all riders except for Vinales went into the boxes. After two minutes all riders got back on the track and Marini topped the standings with time 1:37:594 seconds.

With two minutes remaining there was a crash caused by Binder in Turn 2 meanwhile Bagnaia set a time 0. 151 second faster than Marini and 15 seconds until the end Lecuona’s lap got cancelled.

Both Bagnaia and Marini got into second Qualifying.

Q2

In this part of Qualifying participated Marini, Moreira, Fernandez, Acosta, Miller, Di Giannantonio, Aldeguer, Bagnaia, Bezzecchi, Ogura, Martin, M. Marquez

M. Marquez and Di Giannantonio fell off their bikes in their first fast attempts in Turn 1 but their quickly got up and continued on the track. All riders used the same type of tires as there were in Qualifying 1 which were medium tires in front and soft rear ones.

First fast time was set by Acosta which he later improved and had a provisional pole position five minutes in the session. As Marquez and Fernandez did their fast laps, too they couldn’t beat Acosta’s time of 1:37:228 seconds.

After a quick pit stop all riders got back on track to fight for pole position. Acosta set another fastest time still leaving Aldeguer, Di Giannantonio and M. Marquez right behind. With 1 and a half minute remaining M. Marquez beat Acosta’s time and got on provisional first place. He later improved his time and took pole position with Acosta, Aldeguer and Di Giannantonio behind.
