Free Practice 2 and Qualifying at the MotoGP saw intense action, with Marc Marquez setting record-breaking time and fierce competition from rookies and veterans alike. Surprising performances from Franco Morbidelli and Pedro Acosta shook up the leaderboard, while Fabio Quartararo fought to recover after a tough start to the weekend. Here's a full recap of the session.
FP2
Saturday started with Free Practice 2 before the qualifying session, giving the riders a chance to warm up properly. The first timed laps were between 1:52 and 1:48. Francesco Bagnaia briefly took the lead, but Marc Marquez soon beat his time with a 1:47.376 lap. Behind him were Fermín Aldeguer and Johann Zarco. Fabio Quartararo, who had a terrible Friday, was in 15th place.
Overall, the lap times were much faster as riders pushed hard to prepare for qualifying and get the best possible starting position. Alex Marquez was just 0.001 seconds faster than his brother Marc. Maverick Viñales continued to be the fastest KTM rider and was now in 4th. Bagnaia, who had been in the lead, dropped to 7th. Marco Bezzecchi on his Aprilia was doing strong laps and moved into 5th.
Rookie Fermín Aldeguer briefly took the lead again, but Marc retook it, followed by Pedro Acosta in 2nd and Bagnaia in 3rd. Bezzecchi soon pushed Bagnaia down to 4th. With 12 minutes left, many riders returned to the pits, giving others more space on track to improve. Marc Marquez continued to set the fastest sectors.
Quartararo tried hard to improve but couldn’t manage a fast sector and stayed in 15th. Franco Morbidelli, also trying to improve, was blocked by another rider and lost a promising lap. Then Alex Marquez crashed in Sector 2, causing a yellow flag and damaging his bike. Thankfully, he was not injured.

Morbidelli improved to 2nd place, pushing Quartararo further down. But Pedro Acosta then moved into 2nd. With 5 minutes left, Alex returned to his garage. Acosta attempted another fast lap but went wide. Quartararo started a strong lap, while Bezzecchi improved to 3rd. Quartararo was slower in sectors 2 and 3, but still managed to reach 3rd place, a big improvement.
Another yellow flag came out at Turn 2 when Joan Mir crashed and damaged his bike, just 2 minutes before the session ended. Bezzecchi managed to improve again and took back 3rd place. Some other riders had to cancel their laps due to the yellow flag.
The checkered flag came out, allowing only a few riders to finish their laps. The main riders who improved were Morbidelli, Viñales, and Bagnaia.

Timed laps started around the 2:00 mark due to the yellow flag. The first fast lap came from Quartararo with a time of 1:47.078. With 5 minutes left, the two riders set to go through to Q2 were Quartararo and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Quartararo was on a great lap but made a mistake in the last corner and ran wide.
Alex Rins was in 3rd and Raúl Fernández in 4th. With 6 minutes to go, riders went back out for their final runs. Bezzecchi returned on his second bike but with a damaged suit, he only completed one lap before returning.
Quartararo improved his time slightly. Di Giannantonio also improved but it wasn’t enough, as Fernández had a better time. Then Di Giannantonio put in a great lap and moved to 1st. The session was still ongoing, but it became clear that Quartararo and Di Giannantonio would advance to Q2. Bezzecchi tried to improve but didn’t have much time and ended up qualifying 20th.
Q2
The session started with all riders going on track again. First lap times were between 1:45 and 1:47. Marc Marquez held the fastest time early on. Alex Marquez was on a good lap but couldn’t beat Marc and stayed in 2nd. Acosta was in 3rd, while Bagnaia was in 11th and not yet on track. Di Giannantonio was the only rider without a time.

Bagnaia tried to improve but made a mistake, wasting his lap. With 6 minutes left, most riders were in the pit preparing for another run. Bagnaia then set a decent lap, reaching 4th, while Di Giannantonio's first lap put him in 11th.
Many riders started their final runs well. Alex Marquez and Morbidelli were both on strong laps. Alex took the lead, while Morbidelli made a mistake in the final sector and settled for 2nd.
Marc Marquez, who had a slow start, improved in Sector 3 and took back pole position, setting a new lap record. Bagnaia only made it to 4th. Quartararo couldn’t challenge for pole and ended up in 9th.
Morbidelli started another good lap but couldn’t improve, so he stayed in 3rd.
