One of the main statistics often analyzed in a rider’s MotoGP season is the number of crashes they have experienced. Excessive crashes are often a red flag, though even top riders in the standings can sometimes find themselves in the gravel more often than expected.

Marc Marquez may have regained his smile after moving from Honda to Ducati, securing four podiums so far and emerging as a dark horse for the title battle. However, his season continues to be plagued by frequent crashes, despite the fact that he is no longer riding the RC213V. After the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the six-time champion topped the list with the most crashes in 2024, a trend reminiscent of his 11-year stay with Honda. Over the first 10 race weekends, Marquez has crashed 15 times, putting him on track to potentially match his 2023 record of 23 crashes.

Rookie star Pedro Acosta is right behind Marquez in the standings with 12 crashes in the first half of the season, tying with his experienced teammate Brad Binder. Johann Zarco and Joan Mir, along with Marco Bezzecchi, follow closely with 10 crashes each.

Among the championship contenders, Jorge Martín has 7 crashes so far, including one while leading the German GP before the summer break. Ducati riders Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini have each crashed 5 times. Notably, Maverick Vinales and Franco Morbidelli have already exceeded their 2023 crash totals, with 8 crashes each so far, while Alex Rins has matched his 2023 total with 8 crashes.

From a manufacturer’s point of view, Ducati leads with 66 crashes, but we must take into account that Ducati has eight bikes on the grid compared to other teams having only four. KTM riders have crashed 42 times this season, while Honda has 29 crashes on a bike that remains challenging to handle in 2024. Yamaha, with just two bikes on the grid, sits at the bottom of the list with 13 crashes shared between Alex Rins and Fabio Quartararo.
