Marco Bezzecchi's difficult weekend in Brno became even worse after he was punished for an incident involving a track marshal following his Sprint race crash. The Aprilia rider has been suspended from Sunday's Grand Prix, dealing a serious blow to his MotoGP title hopes.
Marco Bezzecchi has been suspended from the Czech MotoGP race after an incident with a track marshal during the Sprint race in Brno.
The Aprilia rider was fighting for points when he crashed with only a few laps remaining. After the accident, marshals went to remove his bike from the gravel area beside the track.
Bezzecchi was clearly upset about the crash. As the marshals tried to recover the motorcycle, he pushed and struck one of the track workers. The incident was seen by race officials and later reviewed by the MotoGP stewards.
After looking at the evidence, the stewards decided to punish the Italian rider. They ruled that his behaviour was unacceptable and suspended him from Sunday’s Grand Prix.
The penalty is a major blow for Bezzecchi. He is currently fighting for the MotoGP world title and cannot score any points in the main race at Brno.
The crash had already damaged his weekend because he failed to finish the Sprint race. The suspension now gives his championship rivals a chance to reduce the gap in the standings.
Bezzecchi has enjoyed a strong season and has won several races, but mistakes and crashes on Sprint Saturdays have continued to cause problems. His latest accident and the punishment that followed could have a big effect on the title battle as the season continues.
The Brno Sprint race was won by Francesco Bagnaia, while several championship contenders took advantage of Bezzecchi’s misfortune. With the Italian unable to race on Sunday, the fight for the MotoGP crown has become even closer.
