Haas has announced that Oliver Bearman will replace Kevin Magnussen at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, after the Danish driver received a race ban.
Haas has announced that Oliver Bearman will step in for Kevin Magnussen during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Magnussen is suspended for round 17 of the 2024 season after his super-licence was revoked, having reached the 12-point penalty threshold. He became the first F1 driver to be banned under the system introduced in 2014, following an additional two penalty points for a collision with Pierre Gasly during the Italian Grand Prix in Monza last weekend. Once his ban is served, Magnussen will return for the Singapore Grand Prix with a clean slate.
In Baku his place will take British driver Oliver Bearman ahead of his full-time F1 debut with Haas in 2025.
Bearman, already scheduled to be in Baku for the F2 race weekend, was the ideal candidate as he is only 14th in the over-all Formula 2 standings, meaning he isn’t part of the title battle. This will be his second F1 race appearance in 2024, having previously finished seventh and delivering amazing points for the team when he substituted for an unwell Carlos Sainz at Ferrari in Saudi Arabia.
