Oscar Piastri will keep his fourth place finish from the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix after stewards decided there was no rule breach during his reconnaissance laps.
The McLaren driver was called to the stewards after concerns that he may have been driving too slowly and possibly exceeding the allowed time limit between the safety car lines, which would fall under Article 12.2.1.i of the regulations.
Piastri and a team representative met with the stewards after the race at the Red Bull Ring, where the situation was reviewed using video footage, in-car camera data, and timing information.
After examining all the evidence, the FIA stewards concluded that Piastri remained within the required delta time throughout the relevant laps. As a result, they decided that no penalty was necessary and the matter was closed.
The stewards also reminded competitors that decisions can be appealed under the FIA International Sporting Code within the set time limits, but stressed that their ruling was made independently based only on the available evidence and regulations.
The result confirms Piastri’s fourth place finish after a strong race where he started seventh on the grid. He gained positions early, including a move on his McLaren teammate Lando Norris on the opening lap.
He then continued to climb through the field, overtaking both Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who had each lost time due to an additional pit stop under virtual safety car conditions.
With this result, Piastri moves up to fourth in the championship standings on 80 points, just ahead of Norris and Leclerc.
