Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen is preparing for his Nurburgring 24 Hours debut. He grabbed pole position for his team Verstappen Racing and played a crucial role in the team’s victory.
Last year Verstappen won there in his GT3 debut. This time he swapped Ferrari for Mercedes machinery, but it didn’t affect his result. He qualified on pole by two seconds even though it was a disrupted session.
Verstappen was behind the wheel for the opening stint. He lost the lead right at the start as he battled with experienced Christopher Haase in the Audi. But Verstappen passed him almost an hour into the four hour race in a thrilling side by side battle into the esses.
After Verstappen’s stint, Dani Juncadella got behind the wheel with a lead of six seconds. He managed to maintain the first position and the team’s victory was close. After Juncadella it was Jules Gounon’s turn for the next stint and he kept large gap leading the team to victory.
After three hours of racing their Mercedes was leading by almost 40 seconds. With 43 minutes until the end Verstappen got back in the car. He continued pushing the distance between him and second place and took the chequered flag to win for his team by almost a minute.
