Maverick Viñales will not take part in the upcoming Czech Grand Prix after suffering a shoulder injury during qualifying at the German GP. The Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider crashed in Q2, dislocated his left shoulder, and later underwent surgery in Italy. With the summer break ahead, Viñales now focuses on recovery and hopes to return stronger for the second half of the MotoGP season.
Maverick Viñales has confirmed that he will miss the Czech Grand Prix after his crash in qualifying at the Sachsenring.
Viñales crashed during Q2 on Saturday and dislocated his left shoulder. The medical team at the track put the shoulder back in place. Later, at a nearby hospital, doctors found he also had a small fracture in the same shoulder.
Because of the injury, Viñales flew to Italy after the race to have surgery. The operation went well, and the team shared on Monday that Viñales was back at home and ready to begin recovery.
“Everything went smoothly, and the Spaniard is now back home, already fully focused on his recovery,” the team said in a statement.
The team also said that Viñales will miss the Czech GP, which takes place this week before the MotoGP summer break.
This is a difficult moment for Viñales, as he had been improving during the practice sessions in Germany and looked fast. Now, he will use the break to try and heal before the second half of the season starts.
The next race is after the summer break at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, from August 1–3. The team has not yet said if Viñales will be ready by then.
“Maverick had been building momentum… We’re fully behind him as he recovers,” said Tech3 Team Manager Nicolas Goyon in a Crash.net interview.
