Yamaha has announced the signing of Miguel Oliveira to their new satellite team, Pramac, for the 2025 and 2026 MotoGP seasons. This decision underscores Oliveira's MotoGP experience and his versatile riding style as pivotal factors.
The announcement was made on media day at the San Marino Grand Prix, marking Oliveira’s shift to Yamaha. The Portuguese rider, who boasts five MotoGP wins and extensive experience with KTM and Aprilia, will join his fifth team and third brand in the premier class, adding a fresh dimension to his 15th season in MotoGP.
Although Oliveira has only secured one podium finish with his current Italian bike, his move to Yamaha comes as the manufacturer intensifies its efforts to enhance MotoGP performance. Yamaha’s Lin Jarvis highlighted Oliveira’s “technical know-how, experience, speed, and precision” as crucial for improving the Yamaha YZR-M1.
During the press conference, Oliveira expressed his excitement about the new chapter, emphasizing his adaptability and eagerness to contribute to the team. His current teammate, Raul Fernandez, has gained significantly from Oliveira’s systematic approach and professionalism, particularly in dealing with challenging bike conditions.
KTM’s MotoGP technical manager, Sebastian Risse, recognized Oliveira’s substantial role in bike development and his adaptability. Meanwhile, Brad Binder, Oliveira’s former teammate, believes Oliveira’s riding style will complement Yamaha well, noting his skill in maintaining momentum and his helpful, open demeanor.
