Formula 1 F1 testing Williams 2026 F1 season

Williams will not take part in next week’s closed-door Formula 1 shakedown test in Barcelona after delays to its FW48 programme.

Williams have confirmed that they will not participate in the upcoming Formula 1 shakedown test in Barcelona, scheduled to take place from January 26 to 30. The test, held behind closed doors, is designed to give teams an initial on-track opportunity with their 2026 cars ahead of the first official pre-season test in Bahrain.

In a team statement, Williams explained that delays in the FW48 programme led to the decision, with the focus remaining firmly on achieving maximum car performance rather than rushing initial mileage.

Instead of running in Barcelona, the team will carry out a series of alternative tests, including a VTT (Virtual Track Testing) programme with its 2026 car. This approach is aimed at ensuring Williams arrive fully prepared for the Bahrain test and the opening race of the season in Melbourne.

Barcelona shakedown

The Barcelona shakedown will not be a traditional preseason test. Taking place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, it will be held entirely behind closed doors, with no media or public access.

Each team is permitted to select up to three days of running within the five-day window from January 26 to 30. The test is primarily intended for system checks, reliability work and initial validation of new-regulation cars, rather than outright performance runs.
