MotoGP Motogp 2026 Season motogpmugello winners&losers Summaries
The Italian Grand Prix delivered one of the most significant weekends of the MotoGP season so far. Marco Bezzecchi and Aprilia emerged as the big winners at Mugello, while Ducati, Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo were left with questions to answer after a dramatic home race.
Winner: Aprilia
For years, Aprilia has been working to challenge Ducati consistently. Mugello may have been the clearest sign yet that those efforts are paying off.
The RS-GP looked competitive across the entire weekend and proved capable of fighting for victory against the strongest opposition. Success at a circuit where Ducati traditionally performs so well should give the team huge confidence moving forward.
If Aprilia can maintain this level of performance at upcoming rounds, it could become a genuine championship threat.
Loser: Factory Ducati
Mugello is usually a place where Ducati shines. The Italian manufacturer arrived expecting to celebrate in front of thousands of passionate fans, but things did not go entirely to plan.
Although Ducati riders remained competitive throughout the weekend, the factory was unable to secure the victory many expected. Losing at home is never ideal, especially when a direct rival takes the spotlight.
Ducati is still the benchmark in MotoGP, but the Italian Grand Prix showed that the gap to its rivals may be shrinking.
Winner: Marco Bezzecchi
There was no bigger winner at Mugello than Marco Bezzecchi. In front of his home crowd, the Italian delivered one of the strongest performances of his MotoGP career to claim a memorable victory.
Bezzecchi looked comfortable throughout the weekend and handled the pressure impressively on race day. He stayed calm during the early stages before making his move when it mattered most. The result was more than just a race win – it was a statement that he belongs among the leading title contenders.
Just as importantly, Bezzecchi gave Aprilia a major boost at one of the most important races of the season.
Loser: Francesco Bagnaia
Francesco Bagnaia's weekend was not a disaster, but it will still feel like a missed opportunity.
The Italian arrived at one of his favourite circuits hoping to deliver a victory for the home fans. At various points he looked capable of doing exactly that, yet he was ultimately unable to convert his pace into the result he wanted.
Bagnaia remains firmly in the championship fight, but allowing rivals to take maximum points at Mugello could prove costly later in the season.
Winner: Jorge Martin
Championship campaigns are built on consistency, and Jorge Martin once again demonstrated why he remains one of the strongest contenders on the grid.
Even when victory was not within reach, Martin ensured he left Italy with valuable points. Riders often remember the races they win, but championships are frequently decided on weekends where damage is limited and opportunities are maximised.
Loser: Fabio Quartararo
Fabio Quartararo arrived in Italy hoping to build on the encouraging speed Yamaha has shown at several races this season. Instead, Mugello became another frustrating weekend.
The Frenchman once again demonstrated flashes of pace, but Yamaha struggled to consistently challenge the leading manufacturers over a full race distance. Quartararo has often been extracting more from the bike than seems possible, yet there is only so much he can do without further improvements from the factory.
As rivals continue to move forwards, Yamaha cannot afford too many more difficult weekends.
Winner: Diogo Moreira
While MotoGP attracted most of the attention, Diogo Moreira gave fans another reminder of why he is considered one of the most exciting young talents in the paddock.
The Brazilian's performance at Mugello showcased both speed and maturity. Moreira has steadily developed into a consistent frontrunner and continues to strengthen his reputation as a rider capable of making the step to the highest level in the future.
Weekends like this only increase the interest surrounding his long-term prospects.
Winner and loser: Raul Fernandez
Raul Fernandez enjoyed one of his strongest weekends since joining Aprilia. While the headlines belonged to Bezzecchi, Fernandez quietly produced a performance that highlighted the progress he has made in recent months.
Mugello has not always been an easy circuit for Fernandez, but he looked competitive from the start of the weekend and remained firmly in the fight for strong points. More importantly, he helped underline just how much Aprilia has improved.
If Fernandez can continue to deliver results like this, Aprilia's strength will no longer depend on just one rider.
