The FP1 in Portugal kicked off in style. This first Friday morning session is only 45 minutes long.
The first times started in a time range of 1:41 to 1:53 making it a big gap. Meanwhile 6 minutes into the session, we had the first yellow flag of the session, it was caused by Pol Espargaró crashing out. At this part of the session, the top 10 looked as following: Márquez, Acosta, Bezzecchi, Zarco, Aldeguer, Di Giannantonio, Marini, Fernández, Quartararo, Morbidelli.

As always with each new lap, the times got faster, now the riders were entering the time range 1:39s. And as the times got faster, Johann Zarco took the lead of the session, with Márquez in second and Aldeguer in third. However according to the weather radar, it was possible that it would start raining.

So far, Nico Bulega who is here to step in for Marc Márquez was sitting in 20th place. With 15 minutes in, half of the riders returned to pits, leaving the top 10 unchanged. However, while some riders remained in the pits, few stayed and managed to improve their times. One of the improvements was Jack Miller who jumped to 9th place.

And with 18 minutes left, the top 10 looked as following: Márquez, Zarco, Aldeguer, Morbidelli, Acosta, Mir, Bezzecchi, Marini, Quartararo, Espargaró. So far only 8 riders managed to break into 1:39s time range. The second yellow flag stopped the session, and was caused by Raúl Fernández crashing. After the crash it looked like he had injured himself, as he was seen holding his right hand. And shortly after it was confirmed that Raúl Fernández went to medical centre.

And with 12 minutes left, the track marshals waved the flag, signalling that it started raining at some parts of the track. Still, after all it was only a signal and the riders still stayed at the track. We saw Somkiat Chantra saving his bike at the start/finish straight, where he almost fell from his bike.

With 6 minutes left, some riders even managed to improve their times. Like Marini who now jumped to 3rd place. Even Quartararo started flying lap, yet he was slow in sector 2. However as the session entered its end more. Márquez was still in the lead of the session, while Miller improved his time and jumped to 2nd place.

As the chequered flag was out, the riders were finishing their last flying laps. And as the riders finished their attempts only few managed to improve. The top 10 finished as following: Márquez, Bezzecchi, Miller, Zarco, Espargaró, Morbidelli, Marini, Mir, Acosta, Aldeguer.
