Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi was taken to hospital after a heavy crash during the MotoGP Dutch Grand Prix at Assen.

The Italian rider fell while fighting for third place with reigning world champion Marc Marquez. The accident happened at the fast Turn 15 section of the circuit. After losing control of his Aprilia, Bezzecchi was thrown into the gravel and rolled several times before stopping near the barriers.

Medical staff quickly attended to the 27-year-old rider. He was taken to the circuit medical centre, where doctors carried out a full examination. MotoGP medical director Dr Angel Charte was also involved in the checks.

The first tests showed that Bezzecchi was conscious and could move all four limbs normally. Doctors found no signs of serious neurological or other major health problems. However, because he was suffering from severe pain after the high-speed impact, they decided to send him to Groningen Hospital for further tests.

At the hospital, Bezzecchi underwent CT scans and other medical examinations. The results showed that he had not suffered any injuries. After being cleared by doctors, he was allowed to leave the hospital and return home later that evening.

The crash was another difficult moment in a challenging period for Bezzecchi. Earlier in June, he was involved in an incident with Jorge Martin at the Hungarian Grand Prix. A week later, he was disqualified from the Czech Grand Prix sprint race after making contact with a marshal.

Because of his latest retirement, Bezzecchi has lost the lead in the MotoGP championship standings. He is now second in the title race, seven points behind Jorge Martin.

Aprilia said that further updates would be provided if needed, but the good news is that Bezzecchi escaped the crash without any injuries.
