Formula 1 is monitoring the developing security situation in the Middle East after a joint military operation by the United States and Israel targeted Iran over the weekend following a period of rising tensions.

According to available information, Iran carried out retaliatory strikes that hit targets across the wider region. Shortly after midday local time in Bahrain, reports emerged that a missile had struck the north of the country.

The events have created uncertainty around major international events scheduled in the region, including Formula 1 races. Bahrain has often hosted the season-opening round in the past, but this year it is scheduled as the fourth race of the calendar, with the Bahrain Grand Prix set to take place on April 12. The championship will then travel to Saudi Arabia one week later.

The 2026 Formula 1 season begins next weekend with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, with the first three races taking place outside the Middle East in Australia, China and Japan.

Formula 1 says it is continuing to monitor the situation but has not announced any changes to the calendar.

“Our next three races are in Australia, China and Japan, not in the Middle East – those races are still a number of weeks away. As always, we closely monitor any situation like this and work closely with the relevant authorities,” an F1 spokesperson said, as quoted by PlanetF1.
