FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem believes Christian Horner's time away from Formula 1 will not be permanent, expressing confidence that the former Red Bull boss will eventually make a comeback to the sport.
After nearly a year away from the Formula 1 paddock, Christian Horner made a low-profile return during last weekend's British Grand Prix, sparking fresh speculation about his future.
The former Red Bull team principal and CEO was dismissed shortly after the 2025 British Grand Prix, bringing an end to a hugely successful 20-year spell in charge. Laurent Mekies later took over the role, while a formal severance agreement between Horner and Red Bull was finalised in September 2025.
Since leaving the team, Horner has kept a relatively low profile within Formula 1. He has taken on an advisory position with London-based private equity firm Oakley Capital, worked on his memoir, and made appearances in both MotoGP and Formula E.
Speaking after Horner's return to the F1 paddock, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem admitted he expects the Briton to find his way back into the championship.
Asked if he would like to see Horner return to Formula 1, Ben Sulayem replied as quoted by ESPN:
"Yes. He will get back. Where is not for me to say, even if I know. It is for him to say."
