Gresini Racing has confirmed that Joan Mir and Daniel Holgado will join the team for the 2027 MotoGP season. The pair have signed two-year contracts and will replace Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer in a completely new rider line-up.
Gresini Racing has confirmed that Joan Mir and Daniel Holgado will race for the team from the 2027 MotoGP season. Both riders have signed two-year deals and will stay with the Italian team until the end of 2028.
The announcement was made by Gresini Racing, the team led by Nadia Padovani, the widow of the late Fausto Gresini. Mir and Holgado will replace the current rider line-up of Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer.
Joan Mir will join Gresini after spending four seasons with Honda. The Spanish rider enjoyed great success earlier in his career. He won the Moto3 World Championship in 2017 before moving into MotoGP with Suzuki in 2019.
Mir became MotoGP World Champion in 2020 after a very consistent season with Suzuki. However, Suzuki left MotoGP at the end of the 2022 season, forcing him to find a new team. He joined Honda, but the Japanese manufacturer has struggled to return to the front of the grid in recent years.
At Gresini, Mir will ride a Ducati motorcycle. Reports say he will race for Gresini as a team rider rather than having a factory contract with Ducati.
The second new signing is Daniel Holgado, one of Spain's brightest young talents. Holgado made his Moto3 World Championship debut in 2021 and finished second in the championship in 2024 before moving up to Moto2 with Aspar in 2025.
Holgado adapted quickly to Moto2. Last season, he claimed two race victories and finished sixth in the championship. This year, he made an excellent start by finishing third in Thailand before taking victory in Brazil. Those strong results attracted interest from several MotoGP teams, but Gresini secured his signature for the next two seasons.
The arrival of Mir and Holgado means Gresini will have a completely new rider line-up for 2027. The combination brings together an experienced MotoGP world champion and one of the sport's most promising young riders.
The signings are part of a busy period in the MotoGP rider market. Since the championship, manufacturers and teams agreed on a new Concorde Agreement, many teams have started confirming their rider plans well before the 2027 season begins.
