Formula 1 F1 2026 F1 season

1997 Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve is heading back to competitive racing this season after being announced as a guest entry in the Porsche Supercup series. The Canadian will make his first appearance in the championship that supports Formula 1 weekends across Europe.

Villeneuve has not raced regularly in recent years, with his most recent competitive outings coming in the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Now 55 years old, the former F1 champion is preparing for a completely new challenge. Despite his long and varied career across motorsport, including victories in the Indy 500 and the CART title in 1995, Villeneuve has never previously competed in Porsche Supercup.

His entry will also bring back one of the most recognisable visual identities in motorsport. The car will feature a striped livery inspired by the famous helmet design Villeneuve used throughout his Formula 1 career, itself based on colourful jumpers worn by his mother.

The championship confirmed the news through its official social media channels.

"Former F1 World Champion joins the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup as a special guest," stated the series.

"Even during his time in F1, Villeneuve stood out - not just for his driving, but for his distinctive helmet design: Inspired by his mother’s jumpers, its colourful stripes became one of his trademarks, instantly recognisable to motorsport fans around the world This year, that signature look goes one step further: his personal Supercup car carries a dedicated livery inspired by the iconic striped design. There’s no doubting the pedigree he brings, and we’re sure he’ll be delivering the action on track! Welcome, Jacques!"
