Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli has received the prestigious Trofeo Bandini award, becoming the latest Formula 1 figure to be recognised for outstanding achievement and future potential. The 19-year-old Italian was presented with the trophy during a special ceremony in Brisighella, the hometown of Lorenzo Bandini.
Mercedes Formula 1 driver Kimi Antonelli was awarded the 33rd Trofeo Bandini on Friday, joining a distinguished list of recipients recognised for their contribution and promise in motorsport.
The award was established in 1992 in memory of Italian racing driver Lorenzo Bandini, who died following injuries sustained during the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix. Presented annually in the Emilia-Romagna region, the trophy has previously been awarded to several prominent Formula 1 names, including Nico Rosberg, David Coulthard and Lewis Hamilton.
Antonelli’s day of celebrations began in Imola, where he met local officials before greeting fans while driving through the city centre in his father’s GT3 car. The programme then moved to nearby Faenza, where the Mercedes driver appeared in Piazza del Popolo and met with the city’s mayor.
The final part of the event took place in Brisighella, Bandini’s hometown. Antonelli was welcomed by supporters in Piazza Carducci before receiving the Trofeo Bandini during an official ceremony in Piazza Marconi. The celebrations concluded with an official dinner attended by guests and local representatives.
Speaking after receiving the award, Antonelli said, as quoted by Mercedes F1 website:
“It is a true honour to be part of this event and to receive such a special award. Being here today, surrounded by so much support and positivity, makes this moment even more meaningful. This is an experience I will never forget, and I feel incredibly grateful to share it with all of you.”
The Italian also thanked those who have supported him throughout his career, adding:
“I would like to dedicate this trophy to my family, my amazing team, and everyone here today who has supported me throughout this journey. Your encouragement and belief in me have made all the difference, and I am deeply thankful for each and every one of you.”
