The new street-based circuit in Madrid, which will host the Spanish Grand Prix from 2026, will be called Madring. The name is a blend of “Madrid” and “ring,” a common suffix in circuit names, particularly in Germany.

Examples include Nürburgring, named after the nearby village and castle, and Hockenheimring, which takes its name from the town of Hockenheim. The current F1 calendar also features Hungaroring, while Austria’s Red Bull Ring uses the word separately.

Race organizers unveiled the Madring branding on Monday and explained the reasoning behind the name change. “Formula 1 circuits are typically referred to by the city or region where they are located – Monza, Imola, Interlagos, Spa, Silverstone, Miami, Las Vegas,” a statement read.

“However, their full official names are rarely used. For this reason, Madring aims to establish a concise and memorable identity that directly references its host city, is instantly recognisable worldwide, and requires no translation.”

Designed by Dromo, the company behind the Zandvoort and Sepang layouts, the Madring circuit will feature a 5.5km track, incorporating 1.5km of public roads around the Ifema exhibition centre. Madrid secured a 10-year deal to host the Spanish GP, with Formula 2 and Formula 3 also set to race at the venue.
