Former Formula 1 mastermind Ross Brawn has taken on a new challenge in motorcycle racing after joining Pramac Racing’s board of directors. The ex-Ferrari, Mercedes and Brawn GP boss will work in an advisory role alongside team principal Paolo Campinoti as the MotoGP outfit strengthens its long-term structure and ambitions.

Ross Brawn has made a surprise switch from Formula 1 to MotoGP after accepting a role with Pramac Racing.

The 71-year-old has joined the Italian team’s board of directors as a non-executive advisor and will support team principal Paolo Campinoti with strategic and organisational matters.

Brawn is regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern Formula 1 history. Across spells with Benetton, Ferrari, Honda, Brawn GP and Mercedes, he helped guide teams to multiple constructors’ championships and drivers’ titles between.

Following his departure from Mercedes, Brawn stepped away from motorsport before returning in 2017 as Formula 1’s managing director for motorsports. He remained in the role until retiring again at the end of the 2022 season.

Pramac described Brawn’s arrival as an important step in strengthening the organisation as it continues competing at the highest level of MotoGP.

Addressing his new position, Brawn said: “Motorsport has always been about people, teamwork and continuous improvement, and I look forward to supporting Paolo and the team and contributing where my experience may be useful. Pramac has built an impressive organisation with a strong spirit and ambition, and I‘m excited to be part of its future.”

Campinoti welcomed the appointment and highlighted the long-standing relationship between the pair.

“Beyond his extraordinary career and achievements in Formula 1, Ross is someone with whom I have shared a friendship and a relationship of great respect for many years. I believe that his vision, knowledge and winning mentality will make a valuable contribution to the continued growth and development of Pramac Racing,” he said.

Brawn becomes another well-known Formula 1 name to move into MotoGP in recent months after former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner joined Red Bull KTM Tech3 as CEO earlier this year.
