Sergio Perez has reflected on the realities of being Max Verstappen's team-mate at Red Bull, admitting the four-time world champion had access to the team's top resources. However, the Mexican insists he accepted the situation from day one rather than letting it become a distraction.

After returning to Formula 1 with Cadillac following a year away from the grid, Sergio Perez has offered a candid look back at his four seasons alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull.

Perez joined the Milton Keynes-based outfit in 2021 and spent four years supporting Verstappen's championship campaigns. While he delivered several crucial performances that helped Red Bull secure titles, consistently matching his team-mate proved an almost impossible task.

Speaking on the High Performance podcast, Perez explained that he always understood Verstappen occupied a unique position within the team, with the Dutchman benefiting from the strongest technical support available.

"To face Max at Red Bull is the toughest challenge. I mean, even to face Max at any other team would be very tough. But to face him at Red Bull, with his team, his people, his surroundings, it's tough, and you need the best of the best in every area, and you just don't have that, you know," Perez explained.

Perez also said Verstappen had access to the most experienced engineers and the team's best resources, but stressed that he knew exactly what to expect before signing with Red Bull and chose to focus on making the most of his own situation instead of complaining.

"While he has all the opportunities in terms of engineering, senior engineers, experienced engineers, everything goes to Max. But I knew that before I came, so I thought, 'Look, I can either complain or get on with what I have,' and that's what I did," the Mexican F1 driver added.

The six-time Grand Prix winner also revealed that he worked with the same group of engineers throughout his entire Red Bull stint, something he considers one of the achievements he is most proud of.

"The four years I was there, I kept the same engineering team. That's something I feel extremely proud of," Perez concluded.
