Max Verstappen and his team lost victory in the NLS race at the Nürburgring after exceeding the allowed number of tyre sets.
Max Verstappen, alongside Jules Gounon and Daniel Juncadella, has been disqualified from victory in the second round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie after a post-race technical infringement.
The #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3, run by Winward Racing, crossed the finish line first in the 58th ADAC Barbarossapreis and appeared to secure a dominant win. However, post-race checks revealed that the team had used seven sets of tyres during the race, exceeding the maximum limit of six. Under NLS regulations, this type of breach results in automatic disqualification, leaving officials with no alternative decision.
The team later confirmed the issue was caused by an internal mistake.
“It’s a very disappointing situation for us. We made an error, and unfortunately the rules are clear. We apologise to the fans and will make sure we learn from this before the 24-hour race,” said team principal Christian Hohenadel.
As a result, the win is now awarded to the Rowe Racing BMW crew of Dan Harper and Jordan Pepper. Second place goes to the Falken Porsche of Tim Heinemann and Sven Müller.
