It was an exciting Friday afternoon practice, where the riders tried to set fast times to enter Q2 directly. The session had crashes, yellow flags, and many late improvements. In the end, only the top 10 riders earned a place in Q2, and the fight for those spots was very close.
The afternoon Friday practice started with the riders going immediately on track. Luckily, Fernandez, who had crashed during the morning practice, was declared fit after a trip to the local hospital for CT scan, to confirm no injury. This session is special, as the top 10 fastest riders will gain direct entry to Q2.
The first measured times started between 1:39 to 1:42s. Pedro Acosta took the lead from the start, while other riders were improving quickly. As the riders finished their lap, they managed to improve, jumping to 1:38s time range. With 5 minutes into the session, the first yellow flag was out, caused by Franco Morbidelli crashing at turn 13.
So far the top 10 looked as following: Márquez, Binder, Bagnaia, Zarco, Aldeguer, Acosta, Marini, Bezzecchi, Mir, Quartararo. And shortly after, there was second yellow flag, this time caused by Luca Marini crashing at Turn 13 as well.

Acosta managed to improve and he jumped to 2nd place. While Fabio Quartararo fell from the top 10. With 13 minutes in, most of the riders returned to the pits, leaving only a few on track. So far Alex Márquez was still leading the session, while Quartararo improved his time and jumped to 8th place.
With 20 minutes into the session, the riders slowly made their way back on track. The top 10 looked as following: Márquez, Acosta, Zarco, Bagnaia, Aldeguer, Binder, Bezzecchi, Quartararo, Marini, Ogura.
As the session neared its end, the positions mostly remained the same, the only position that kept changing was the 10th place. Meanwhile Bulega had improved and was now in 15th place. Another rider who managed to improve was Pol Espargaro who was now in 4th place.
The times remained the same so far, and there weren’t any further improvements for now. But that would soon change, with the end of the practice where the riders would be fighting for advancement to Q2.
With 20 minutes left of the session, most of the riders returned to the pits, leaving only few riders on track. The top 10 at this moment looked as following: Márquez, Acosta, Zarco, Espargaro, Bagnaia, Aldeguer, Fernandez, Binder, Bezzecchi, Quartararo.
Just like in the morning session, the track marshals waved the flag, signaling that it may be raining. With 16 minutes left, Jack Miller had crashed in sector 2. However while majority of the riders went to pits, three of them remained on track. One of them was Pedro Acosta who improved his time, but it wasn't enough to take the lead.
Meanwhile the other riders made their way back on track, while Pedro Acosta improves his time and took the lead of the session. Marco Bezzecchi also managed to improve as he jumped to 2nd place, while Joan Mir jumped to 4th place. Yet, Márquez took the lead back from Acosta. With 7 minutes left of the session, the top 10 looked as following: Márquez, Acosta, Zarco, Bezzecchi, Mir, Aldeguer, Di Giannantonio, Bagnaia, Morbidelli, Quartararo.

The positions were changing quickly as the end of the session was closer. Binder improved his time and jumped to 10th place, pushing Quartararo out of advancing positions.
With 3 minutes left of the session, everyone was on track, fighting for the advancing positions. Like Joan Mir, who jumped to 3rd place and Espargaro who improved to 8th. But these weren’t the only improvements. Meanwhile Alex Márquez was the only rider in time range of 1:37s.
And with the chequered flag out, the riders were finishing their attempts. Quartararo was unable to improve and ended the session outside the top 10. While Bagnaia improved his time and jumped to 2nd place. And it was definitive. The top 10 riders who got direct entry to Q2 were: Márquez, Bagnaia, Acosta, Bezzecchi, Mir, Zarco, Di Giannantonio, Aldeguer, Espargaro, Ogura.
