Antonelli kept close to Russell since the race start and later tried a move in Lap 6 in Turn 1. He pulled to the outside, both cars slightly touched on the exit with Antonelli taking to the grass through the following turn and appearing briefly in front of Russell. The Italian driver tried to overtake again in Turn 8 but locked up and went through the grass again. Due to this incident he lost his position to Lando Norris and eventually finished third.

“I tried to make my move and I need to review on that because I was quite well alongside and got pushed off. It is what it is,” Antonelli commented right after the Sprint, quoted by the official Formula 1 website. He also added that he made a mistake in Turn 8 which compromised his race but overall it was a good battle.

“Was a very hard fought race but I think it was pretty fun to watch for everyone,” he concluded while adding that his focus in now on Qualifying because it is another big opportunity.
