Williams F1 Team has confirmed that 1996 Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill will return to the team as an Official Ambassador in 2026, marking 30 years since his title-winning season with the British squad.
Williams F1 Team has announced that Damon Hill is returning to the organisation as an Official Ambassador. The move comes in the 30th anniversary year of his 1996 Formula 1 world title, which he secured with the team after a highly successful period together in the 1990s.
Hill remains one of the most recognisable figures in British motorsport and played a major role during one of Williams’ strongest eras. After two seasons as a test and reserve driver, he stepped up to a race seat in 1993 and claimed his first Grand Prix victory later that year in Hungary.
He helped Williams secure the Constructors’ Championship in 1994 and narrowly missed the Drivers’ title following the well-known final-race collision with Michael Schumacher. Two years later, Hill sealed the 1996 championship with eight race wins, including victory in the season finale in Japan. He also became the first son of a Formula 1 World Champion to win the title himself.
Across four seasons racing for Williams, Hill achieved 21 Grand Prix victories, 20 pole positions and 19 fastest laps. Hill effectively replaces Jenson Button in the ambassador role after Button moved to a similar position with Aston Martin earlier this year.
The Briton now joins an established ambassador line-up at Williams for 2026. His former teammate Jacques Villeneuve, the 1997 world champion, continues in the role for a second year. Jamie Chadwick, a three-time W Series champion and race winner in Indy NXT and LMP2, also remains part of the programme and will advise new F1 Academy driver Jade Jacquet during her rookie season.
“Williams is truly a special place for me and where some of the defining moments of my career took place. I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of this sport and to have achieved what I did, and returning as an Ambassador is a real privilege. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the team’s history and help to support its legacy and future,” said Damon Hill in the team's statenment
