Formula 1 has confirmed that Damson Idris is joining the series as an official Global Brand Ambassador. The announcement follows his leading role in the F1 movie, where he starred alongside Brad Pitt. The film grossed more than $630 million worldwide and became the most successful sports movie of all time.

In the film, Idris played Joshua Pearce, a young and ambitious driver racing for a fictional team embedded in the Formula 1 paddock. The production was filmed during real Grand Prix weekends with full cooperation from Formula 1, allowing Idris to work closely with teams, drivers and race operations.

Through the project, Idris became a regular presence in the paddock. He trained extensively for the role and developed a strong interest in the technical and sporting side of Formula 1. His involvement has positioned him as a link between the world of cinema and the reality of modern grand prix racing.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali welcomed the partnership and highlighted Idris’ role in helping the sport reach new audiences.

“I’m delighted to welcome Damson Idris officially to the Formula 1 family. Following his starring role in the F1 movie, which helped bring our sport to new audiences, he is joining us as an official Global Brand Ambassador. In Formula 1, we are all about authenticity and Damson is passionate about the sport and shares our vision to grow it," said Domenicali.

Idris also expressed his enthusiasm for the new role:

“I’ve always been drawn to spaces where culture, performance, and precision meet, and Formula 1 sits right at the centre of that. Getting closer to it gave me a real understanding of the innovation and intensity behind everything. I’m genuinely excited to step into this role as a Global Ambassador.”
