Kimi Antonelli continued his dominant run in the 2026 Formula 1 season by winning the Canadian Grand Prix, securing his fourth consecutive victory and further strengthening his position at the top of the drivers’ championship after Round 5.
The Mercedes driver once again delivered a commanding performance in Montreal, extending his advantage over team-mate George Russell. While Russell had impressed earlier in the weekend by winning Saturday’s Sprint race, his Grand Prix ended in disappointment after he retired due to technical problems while fighting at the front. The setback cost him valuable points and allowed Antonelli to build a lead of more than 40 points in the standings.
It was strong weekend for Ferrari, highlighted by Lewis Hamilton’s best result so far with the team. The Briton finished second in the Canadian Grand Prix, marking a significant step forward and reducing the gap to team-mate Charles Leclerc in the championship battle as Monegasque driver finished fourth this time.
McLaren endured a difficult outing in Montreal, failing to score any points in the Sunday's Grand Prix. Lando Norris dropped to fifth in the championship as a result, with Oscar Piastri also unable to capitalise on a challenging weekend for the team.
Red Bull Racing finally had something to celebrate as Max Verstappen secured his first podium of the season with third place. The result helped stabilise his position in seventh in the standings after a difficult start to the year.
Further down the field, Haas F1 Team and Alpine F1 Team continued to score important midfield points, with Oliver Bearman and Pierre Gasly both finishing inside the top 10.
One of the standout stories of the weekend came from the lower midfield, where Liam Lawson and Franco Colapinto delivered the best results of their careers so far. Lawson impressed with another strong points finish, while Colapinto also scored valuable points, continuing his upward momentum in the championship.
