Gresini Racing rider Fermin Aldeguer has broken his left femur in a training crash in Valencia, just weeks before the new MotoGP season begins. The young Spaniard now faces a race against time to recover.
Fermin Aldeguer has suffered a serious injury just weeks before the new MotoGP season begins. The Gresini Racing rider broke his left femur during a training crash in Valencia while preparing for the season ahead. The team confirmed that he will undergo surgery in Barcelona on Friday to repair the fracture.
The femur is the strongest bone in the human body, and doctors say this type of injury usually needs several months to heal. Because of this, Aldeguer now faces a difficult race against time to be ready for pre-season testing and the first race of the championship.
The young rider had a brilliant debut season in MotoGP last year. He was named Rookie of the Year and celebrated his first victory at the Indonesian Grand Prix. His performances earned him a place on a newer Ducati bike for the upcoming season, which many believed could help him fight for more podium finishes.
Unfortunately, the injury has badly interrupted his winter preparation. Gresini Racing have not given details about how the accident happened, but it is believed to have taken place at the Aspar circuit in Valencia, a popular training track for riders.
The first official MotoGP test of the season will be held in Malaysia in early February, followed by another test in Thailand later in the month. The season will then begin with the Thai Grand Prix. At this moment, it is still uncertain whether Aldeguer will be fit enough to take part.
His crash happened at the same circuit where world champion Marc Márquez is slowly returning to riding after recovering from a shoulder injury. Márquez is being closely watched by his Ducati team as he builds his strength again.
Fans and teams across the MotoGP paddock have sent messages of support to Aldeguer. Everyone hopes he can recover fully and safely, even if it means missing the early part of the season. His health is now the most important priority as he begins a long and careful recovery.
