Honda signs David Alonso for MotoGP from 2027 on a multi-year deal

Honda has confirmed that David Alonso will join the company for the 2027 MotoGP season and the years after. The announcement was made on Tuesday, but Honda did not say which team the young rider will race for.

At the moment, it is not known if Alonso will ride for Honda's factory MotoGP team or for LCR Honda, the company's satellite team. More information is expected before the 2027 season begins.

David Alonso is one of the most exciting young riders in motorcycle racing. The 20-year-old, who was born in Madrid and races under the Colombian flag, won the Moto3 World Championship in 2024. Before winning the title, he finished third in his first Moto3 season, showing his talent from the very beginning.

After his Moto3 success, Alonso moved up to Moto2 with the Aspar Team. In the 2026 season, he has already taken one race victory and is currently fourth in the championship. His season has not been easy because he has been racing with a shoulder injury for several rounds. Even so, he has continued to score important points and remains one of the strongest riders in the class.

Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) said it was very happy to sign Alonso on a multi-year contract. The company praised his fast progress through the junior categories and believes he has a bright future in MotoGP.

Honda has not revealed how long Alonso's contract will last. However, reports suggest that the agreement is longer than the usual two-year deal. This shows that Honda sees Alonso as an important part of its future plans.

Until recently, Alonso's career was managed by former Grand Prix rider Nico Terol. Later, sports agent Bob Moore from Wasserman helped with the negotiations for Alonso's move to MotoGP. The aim was to find the best opportunity for the young rider as he takes the biggest step of his career.

Many people believe the factory Honda team would be the best place for Alonso because he would have full support from the manufacturer. If he joins the works team, he is expected to race alongside Fabio Quartararo, whose own move to Honda is widely expected to be confirmed soon.

Others think that LCR Honda could be a better choice for Alonso's first MotoGP season. A satellite team often gives young riders more time to learn and adapt to the powerful MotoGP bikes without as much pressure as they would face in the factory team.

MotoGP is the highest level of motorcycle road racing, and moving from Moto2 is a big challenge for any rider. Alonso has already shown that he can learn quickly and perform under difficult conditions. Honda will hope he can become one of the stars of its future MotoGP project.
