MotoGP race winner Fermin Aldeguer is now resting in hospital after he broke his leg in a training accident. The young rider had successful surgery and is starting his recovery.

Aldeguer was training at the Aspar Circuit in Valencia with other MotoGP riders when he crashed heavily. Doctors later confirmed that he had broken his femur. Because the injury was serious, he was taken to Barcelona for immediate surgery.

Gresini Racing later shared a short message with fans. They said the operation went well and Aldeguer now needs time to rest. The team has not yet said when he will be able to return to riding.

A broken femur normally takes months to heal. For this reason, Aldeguer is very unlikely to be ready for the start of the 2026 MotoGP season, which begins in Thailand in early March.

Ducati test rider Michele Pirro was also riding at the circuit when the crash happened. He explained that the weather was cold, but the track was in good condition. He said the accident looked very serious and wished Aldeguer a fast recovery.

Who Will Replace Aldeguer?

Ducati now has to think about a replacement rider. One option is Michele Pirro, but Ducati may not want to risk him in races because he is very important for developing the 2027 bike.

Another good option is Nicolo Bulega from World Superbikes. Bulega has already raced for Ducati in MotoGP before, replacing Marc Márquez in Portugal and Valencia last season. He scored points in both races, showing he can handle the MotoGP bike.

Bulega is expected to help Ducati test the 2027 bike in the future, so more MotoGP experience would help him. He could also test Aldeguer’s bike in Sepang in February and race in Thailand and Brazil. However, he would miss some MotoGP rounds because of his World Superbike duties.

For now, the most important thing is Aldeguer’s health. He is one of MotoGP’s brightest talents, and fans hope to see him back on track as soon as possible.

Gresini and Ducati are expected to share more news about his recovery in the coming days.
