Aston Martin has confirmed that American driver Jak Crawford will serve as its official reserve driver for the 2026 Formula 1 season.

The 20-year-old Crawford takes over the role from Felipe Drugovich, who is moving into a full-time racing seat in Formula E.

Crawford, who made his first Formula 1 weekend appearance during first free practice at the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, joined Aston Martin’s development programme last year after previously being part of the Red Bull Junior Team. Since then, he has gained valuable experience through private testing and simulator work with the Silverstone-based outfit.

“I’m incredibly proud to be confirmed as the third driver for 2026. It’s a huge moment in my journey with Aston Martin and a big motivation to keep learning and contributing. Over the past two seasons, I’ve learned so much from being in the F1 environment, both at the factory and trackside. I’ll be doing everything I can to support the team and continue developing as a driver,” said Crawford.

In his new position, Crawford will act as the immediate backup to Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, ready to step in should either race driver be unable to compete.
