Formula 1 Lewis Hamilton Ferrari Barcelona F1 2026 F1 season
Lewis Hamilton started the Barcelona – Catalunya Grand Prix from the second place and Ferrari’s bold three pit stop strategy helped him to eventually win the race. Even though he started on the soft tires and maintained second, his strategy later paid off as George Russell’s two pit stop strategy showed as a weaker one, putting him on the second place.
“First I have to start and say a huge grazie to everyone here, my team here at Ferrari, everyone back at the factory, Fred Vasseur for believing in me and bringing me to this team. I started out a dream last year which seemed almost impossible during my time last year, but we never gave up hope and the team just continued to lift me up,” said Hamilton after the race, quoted by the official Formula 1 website.
After the British driver pitted for the second time, he drove a couple of fastest laps and cut into Russell’s advantage before Fernando Alonso stopped on the grass and caused a Virtual Safety Car. This allowed him to box again without loosing too much time.
Asked where this win ranks among his 106 total victories, he responded: “They’re all special in their own way but this one’s something else.”
After a tough last year the team have made a numerous changes to the car set up, helping Hamilton to take a step forward and the second place in the current standings: “Everyone worked so hard for it, everyone truly deserves it, so I am forever grateful to them and this is just the first I hope of many. But great pit stops today, great strategy, the car felt fantastic, and forza Ferrari.”
