Formula 1 FIA Barcelona F1 Franco Colapinto

Colapinto was penalised for not sufficiently slowing under yellow flag conditions and dropped from eighth to tenth place after the stewards applied a 10-second penalty.

Franco Colapinto was handed a 10-second penalty and one penalty point after stewards ruled he failed to sufficiently reduce speed under yellow flag conditions. Despite showing some reaction to the warning, the FIA determined his pace in the affected sector did not meet the required standard, resulting in him dropping from eighth to tenth in the final classification.

The stewards reviewed full evidence including telemetry, onboard footage, timing data, radio communications and the track’s signalling system, alongside hearing from the driver of car number 43 and team representatives.

They concluded that although Colapinto lifted before entering the yellow flag zone, his speed reduction during the sector itself was not significant enough to comply with the regulations. The penalty was therefore issued at the lower end of the available range.

As a result, Colapinto slipped from a points-scoring position to 10th place, promoting Racing Bulls drivers in the final order.
