Lance Stroll says he would like to compete in more GT3 races after making his debut in the GT World Challenge at Paul Ricard. Despite a difficult result for Comtoyou Racing, the Aston Martin driver enjoyed the experience and praised the car’s pace.
Lance Stroll has revealed he wants to race in GT3 again after making his first appearance in the GT World Challenge Europe at Paul Ricard.
The Canadian shared the number 18 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 with former Roberto Merhi and young Spanish driver Mari Boya for Comtoyou Racing. However, their race was heavily affected by penalties and later ended with a gearbox problem.
The team collected more than eight minutes of penalties during the event, including offences for blue flags and track limits. Their car was eventually retired before the finish.
Even so, Stroll was positive about the weekend and said he quickly felt comfortable in the GT3 machine.
“I enjoyed my debut in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and even with limited preparation I felt good in the car, and the pace was very encouraging. I was one of the fastest during my stint and every lap, I was getting more comfortable with the car and improving my lap times,” said Stroll, as quoted by Motorsport.com
Although the result was disappointing, Stroll explained the race itself was valuable because it gave him experience in a competitive field and in night conditions:
“Of course, the race was basically over when I started my stint due to several issues we’d had, but nevertheless it was great to drive, run in the race conditions at night, and gain experience in a highly competitive championship. I’d like to thank the team for bringing the opportunity together really quickly and for giving us a fast car to drive. It was great fun!”
Stroll now hopes this will not be his last GT3 outing.
“I had a lot of fun, and I look forward to doing more GT racing soon. Let’s see when the calendar allows, but I look forward to driving the Vantage GT3 again soon,” the Canadian driver concluded.
